Superintendent's Message |
 | August 24, 2010 Dear Staff, Parents, and Community: One of our brightest moments this year was the opening of Aldo Leopold on Sunday, August 15th. Nearly one thousand people toured the brand new building! We are proud to report that the ACT (American College Test) scores for Burlington High School are above the national average and above the state average! |
| Advanced Placement classes and Project Lead the Way classes at BHS prepare students for the rigorous pace and breadth of college classes. Our high school students and staff are to be commended for their outstanding efforts and academic achievement! Our first home football game will be held on Friday, September 3rd, at Bracewell Stadium vs. Davenport Assumption. We hope you and your family can join us for Grayhound mania in Iowa’s most picturesque football stadium. The BHS marching band, cheerleaders, color guard and dance team add to the excitement and the pageantry of “Friday night lights!” The amazing STATE CHAMPION Boys’ cross country team and the girls’ cross country team have been running hard to maintain their dominating presence in the MAC conference. The girls’ volleyball team has also been practicing with great energy. We are proud of all of our students for their academic and extracurricular endeavors!
Sincerely yours,
Jane A. Evans Superintendent of Schools.

New Ethnicity Requirement |
Dear Parent or Guardian:
Each year, every school district in Iowa is required to report student data by race and ethnicity to the Iowa Department of Education. Iowa must report this information to the federal government. The Iowa Department of Education reports school level data and does not report individual student data to the federal government. Recently, the federal government changed the procedures for identifying race and ethnicity. Not only do the changes allow individuals to more accurately identify themselves, but it also matches the race and ethnicity collections on all other federal reporting like the Census. Because of the new reporting categories for race and ethnicity, you will need to update your child’s data. Starting with the 2009-2010 school year, all schools in Iowa will report student data to the Iowa Department of Education using the new categories. Please use the links below to read the full letter and also access the form to update your student's records. Full Letter is Here New Registration Form (use only the top part from top to the part called race) |

Special Services Delivery System |

A committee developed the Burlington Community School District’s plan which is now available for public comments. You can find the documents here. After reading the attached document, please forward comments to LuAnn Glaser, Director of Special Services, 1429 West Avenue, Burlington, IA 52601 or
